Aftermath of the Central TX flood

It has been one week since the remnants of Tropical Storm Hermine produced 10+ inches of rain over parts of Central Texas. As you can see in the pictures below a neighborhood in Nolanville, TX has mobile homes washed 3,000 – 4,000 feet from their original locations after a levee broke that protected them from Nolan Creek.

Impacts from TS Hermine

September 7, 2010: As the right front quadrant of Tropical Storm Hermine moved over Central Texas, there was a threat of isolated/brief tornadoes. Below is a picture of radar/velocity and a picture of the storm. This was just one of the few tornado warned cells that we chased, but only had broad rotation.

Riesel, TX Tornado Video

From the remnants of Tropical Storm Hermine on September 8, 2010 at 6pm, Vortex Chasers captured a brief tornado 2 miles south of Riesel, TX on Highway 6.  The tornado touched down a 1/4 mile south of our position directly on Highway 6. The video below was taken just seconds after the tornado crossed over to the east side of the highway.

The map below shows the positions of Vortex Chasers in reference to the touchdown and filming position.

Riesel, TX Tornado – 09/08/10

Vortex Chasers captured a brief tornado about 2 miles south of Riesel, TX. The picture below was taken around 6pm on September 9th 2010 just after it crossed Highway 6. We are working on getting the tornado video on the site as well as some pictures of the Bell County flooding from Tropical Storm Hermine.
