McLennan County SKYWARN 2012

This Saturday Vortex Chasers will be attending the annual 2012 McLennan County SKYWARN.
Come check out this informative session while getting a chance to meet the team and see the chase vehicle.

The McLennan County SKYWARN will be held this Saturday, February 04, 2012 at the Emergency Services Education Center in Waco. The basic storm spotting class will be from 8:30am to noon followed by the advanced portion from 1:00 – 4:30pm.

The National Weather Service encourages anyone with an interest in weather, public service and access to communication, such as HAM radio, to join the SKYWARN program. Volunteers include police and fire personnel, dispatchers, EMS workers, public utility workers and other concerned private citizens. Individuals affiliated with hospitals, schools, churches, nursing homes or who have a responsibility for protecting others are also encouraged to become a spotter…

  • Fundamentals of storm structure
  • Identifying potential severe weather features
  • Information to report
  • How to report information
  • Basic severe weather safety

A new tornado watch has been issued to include most of Central Texas until 11:00a.m. CST Wednesday, 01/25/12.

A Few Severe Storms Possible Overnight

Expect showers and thunderstorms to become more numerous overnight tonight through Wednesday with heavy rainfall. There will be a risk for storms to become strong to severe overnight across the southern half of Texas with damaging winds, large hail and could not rule out an isolated tornado threat.
