2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

June 1st marks the start of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. The image above shows the National Hurricane Center has two areas of interest, at this time showing low chances of becoming organized Tropical Cyclones. The NOAA hurricane outlook for 2011 indicates an above-normal Atlantic season.

September 7, 2010: As the right front quadrant of Tropical Storm Hermine moved over Central Texas, there was a threat of isolated/brief tornadoes. Tropical Storm Hermine is moving towards south Texas with maximum sustained winds at 60 mph and moving NNW at 14 mph. It could bring heavy rains over south and central Texas over the next 48 hours.
Hurricane Earl Update

Outer rain bands from hurricane Earl are moving onto the coast of North Carolina. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to 110 mph and hurricane force winds extend outward up to 70 miles from the center.

Hurricane Earl is now at category 4 strength. Maximum sustained winds are 135 mph with a minimum central pressure of 938 MB and moving west-northwest at 14 mph. Below is a radar image of Hurricane Earl as it passes north of Puerto Rico.
