A tornado has struck the town of Caledonia, Illinois. Severe damage has been reported. This is the first November tornado in Illinois in over 5 years. The last November tornado was on November 15, 2005.

Since 1990, there have been just 6 other November tornado events in the state of Illinois.

Moreover, a likely tornado has also struck Union Grove, Wisconsin. If this is indeed true, this would be the first November tornado in Wisconsin in over 39 years (November 1, 1971 in Rock County).

Before today, there have been only 3 November tornadoes observed in Wisconsin since 1950.

    November 15, 1960 (two tornadoes)
    November 1, 1971 (one tornado)

“Much of the damage in Racine County was centered in Union Grove near the intersection of state Highway 11 and U.S. Highway 45. High winds blew over trucks near the intersection of I-94 and state Highway 20, prompting officials to close parts of the Interstate in Racine County.

About a dozen customers at the Union Grove Lumber & True Value on 10th Avenue gathered in the middle of the store as the tornado swept through the area. It looked like the roof of the village hall blew off, said Cliff Baars, the store manager.

“You could hear the noise. It sounded like a freight train coming through town,” Baars said. “We are lucky it skirted us.””
